Remove Black Background & Show Just Stars for Print on Demand – Affinity Photo 2
I have a cool looking image of stars and galaxy in space that I want to print on a t-shirt using print on demand. But I want to remove the black of space and print just the stars.
Using Affinity Photo 2:
- Select the Pixel Layer (with the stars pic)
- Click the Blend Options icon (a tiny gear/cog icon ⚙️ in the top-right corner of the Layers Studio Panel, to the right of “Opacity” and the Layers blend mode dropdown).
- A Blend Options panel pops up. It has 2 graphs side-by-side.
- In the left graph, called Source Layer Ranges: 1) drag the far-left black node straight down. Output (Out:) slider will change from 100% to 0%. 2) Then slide that same black node across the bottom of the graph, from far-left bottom position to the middle of the very bottom of the graph. Input (In:) slider will change from 0% to 50%. FYI: This does not permanently remove the black of the image.
- To double-check that only the stars are showing, create a new Layer underneath the stars Layer, fill with red, and check that the black space in the stars pic is actually transparent.
